Gloriously good gyros and some of the best taziki sauce I've had. I've had the gyro pizza and the signature gyro and I would highly recommend both of them. The hummus is also very delicious! I have absolutely nothing bad to say.

Living on this side of town, I'm quickly discovering some nearby favorites. I've had Papa Zuzu's 3 times in the past month or so and it's been stellar every time. I've run the gamut of lunch and dinner, indoor and outdoor dining, and even takeout. I've ordered different items each time and they've all been amazing. The first time I had to try the gyro pizza that Brian M was raving about. Two of us shared the pizza and an appetizer and we both were able to take pizza home. Pretty sure our tab was about $10 each. Next I got the standard gyro which was so packed with meat I couldn't even finish the whole thing. The other day I ordered take out and even made it complicated by calling and placing my order after a friend had already placed his. I paid for mine over the phone and he picked them both up. No issues, mistakes, or confusion in any way. We both had the "Not Put Together Gyro" and each one was like it's own platter of food. Perfect for take out! The staff is amazing, the price is amazing, the food is amazing, and they decorate everywhere inside with fresh tomatoes... AMAZING!

The best Greek food I have ever had! I always start with hummus and pita bread. I then get the chicken gyro with tabouli. The food is to die for, and the pita bread really makes the whole meal. Then do I need to mention the baklava? Truly the best food. The staff is always friend, and helpful. You get the food in a nice manner. Also, the food is in great portions for the price. You can sit inside or outside, it's your choice! They get pretty busy, but I've never had to wait to get a seat.

Very small, cute place with older decor. Small patio for outdoor seating option. They get A++ for the food. It was absolutely delish. I enjoyed the signature gyro while my dining partner enjoyed the baked eggplant. Both were fresh and delicious. Our server couldn't have been any kinder. However, we arrived at 1:00, in the middle of the lunch rush. We waited over an hour for our food. Tables all around us were complaining and were extremely dissatisfied with how long they too were having to wait for their food. Due to this, I would NOT recommend anyone come here on a weekday like we did, if you're on lunch break for work. I even watched a woman wait 20 minutes at least for a to go order she had called in ahead of time. Someone from the staff ended up coming to talk to the table next to us, and comped some of their bill because they complained so much about the wait. It left a bad taste in my mouth to hear that, knowing we had waited patiently and without complaint and no one came over to apologize or compensate us for the time we had to wait, especially because we were there before and waited longer than that table. In summary, the food is delish. I would return. But only on an off hour or when there is no chance they're busy.

Only been to Papa Zuzu's once. Pretty small store, the decor definitely screams greek, and the staff was really nice. But they get 5 stars from me for one reason, their Gyro pizza. Fresh ingredients, they put a ton of lamb on it, and for (I think) less than $12, it's enough for two people, and I eat a lot. I wish I lived closer to enjoy it more, put I'm sure I'd be pushing 2.5 spins on the scale if I did live closer. I would put their pizza up against anyone's in Charleston.

It's small (only a handful of booths and tables for indoor seating), the decor is not particularly inviting; however, as stated on its take out menu ... Papa Zuzu's is Good Eats. In fact, it's GREAT EATS. We love the consistency ... everything is ALWAYS delicious ... and you can count on large portions of fresh, basic Mediterranean fare at very fair prices. We dine at Zuzu's often. My hub adores the gazpacho as his starter. If he's lucky, I might let him taste my ample portion of baba ghanouj. It's grilled everyday. It's served with a mound of warm pita wedges, cucumber and pepperoncini. It's chunky and dreamy. Trust me, you'll be licking the bowl. Zuzu's offers a variety of other starters and things to share such as Tzatziki (made fresh everyday), tabouli and authentic Greek olives. Warm pita slices are plentiful ... need more? ... just ask! They offer several beers and a small selection of wines. Nothing extraordinary, none, expensive ... always a good pour on the wines. There offers several salads and many variations on the traditional Greek Village Salad, offered in a small and large size. The former was my choice for my main course. This was the real deal! Ripe, juicy tomatoes, cukes, red onions, pepperoncini, calamata olives, and a hefty block of feta cheese served with Zuzu's Greek Vinaigrette on a small bed of lettuce. I topped mine with a portion of gyro meat, sold by increments of $1. Two dollars did it for me. My hub often gets a pita wrap or gyro and alternates his gyro side among the pasta salad, cucumber salad and Tabouli. Zuzu's gyro choices are traditional (lamb and meat blend cooked on a rotating vertical spit, chicken, or portobello. Want it deconstructed? No problem. Tonite, my husband craved the Greek pizza. If you've never had it ... hurry ... it's heavenly ... check my photo! I watched as he sank his teeth into the gyro pizza with its tons of gyro meat, melted Mozzarella and feta cheeses topped with juicy portobello slices and grilled onions. Note ... he polished 3 sides of the accompanying Tzatziki sauce. Yes, he did offer me a bite, but I was stuffed. We passed on the baklava. (They also offer a Greek Yogurt and berries dessert.) We'll be back ... soon!

We started our meal with the Hummus and Pita. This came with tzatziki sauce, fresh sprouts, pickled peppers and warm pita bread. The hummus and the tzatziki sauce had excellent flavor. When layering all the toppings on the pita each ingredient shined and the pickled peppers gave a briny touch. I had the Zu Zu's Signature Gyro with a side of Lays Salt & Vinegar Chips. The gyro was outstanding. The tomatoes, onions and greens gave it a bright fresh flavor. Our waitress was friendly however, It was a busy day at this restaurant so the service was a bit slow to start. The decor and outside seating is pretty basic. Final Thoughts: Great fresh flavors! The Zu Zu's Signature Gyro is a must try.

I'm spoiled by New York. Also I'm foody person. I've visited few places by yelp's review during my vacation in South Carolina and usually I was disappointed. BUT when I've visited this place I was really surprised. First, I've been in Greece. And this is authentic food, style and atmosphere. I love this simple and special interior. Second, food is fresh and tasty. I enjoyed every bite of gyro. Third, it is serving. Beautiful and tasteful. Forth, service is nice, friendly and quick Thank you guys. You made my day!

This is the worse "Greek" restaurant we have ever gone to. We are of Greek heritage, we know Greek food, and we have been to Greek restaurants around the world - in many cities of the U.S., in Greece, in London, and even in Sydney Australia. We knew something was not right when I saw the flatware wrapped in washcloths. Also every Greek restaurant I have gone to has Greek music playing in the background. When I questioned "no Greek music" I received a shocked answer, as if to say "why would you ask such a thing?" In spite if our first impression, we decided to stay. We were tired, hungry and just didn't want fried seafood for dinner. Plus how bad could it be, it's Greek? Well let me tell you. It was terrible. Looking at the menu there were a few salads. In addition to a traditional Greek salad with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, feta and olive, which my husband ordered, there was one not at all Greek but I liked how it sounded- lettuce, nuts and fruit. We decided not to order a main course til we saw what the salads were like. The salads were huge and looked good, with big wedges of feta cheese. As good as it looked, it was not at all a good quality feta. Both salads were also very dry, hardly any dressing. Mine with the nuts and fruit had a thick balsamic vinegar drizzled across the top. Not nearly enough to moisten the lettuce leaves. My husband's also had very little dressing. When we asked for oil and vinegar they were brought in two separate little take-out cups. I added some to mine but by now my husband already decided he didn't like his. We left and headed for McDonald's. If you are a fan of Greek food do yourself a favor and try another place. I can't see anyone who knows Greek food recommending this place. I am in Trip Advisor all the time and new to Yelp. I have never bashed a restaurant before but even the house wine of Pinot Grigio, which is usually smoother than Chardonnay, had an acidic tart taste. $34 for two glasses of wine and two salads was the worse $34 we ever spent.

I can't say enough about this place. Service and staff and was amazing. Super friendly. And the food is out of this world. Every time I go I'm blown away by the quality and freshness of the food. Plus I'm A big eater And the portions are great!!

Love the chicken Caesar pita sandwich here. They also have the best looking and tasting tomatoes which they proudly display in the front windows. They are often full so you may have to wait for a table. But it is worth the wait. Getting our food delivered to our table took way too long this time around. We asked our server a couple of times where our food was. His reply was there was only one guy making the pitas. Luckily we weren't in a hurry, however it is frustrating when other customers who came in well after we did were served well before we were. You can eat outside here but some of the outside tables will have you staring right at someone's car. And it is a bit noisy with all of the traffic on Coleman Blvd. Try to get a booth inside if you can.

A nice pleasant meal on a saturday night. Four stars for food, enjoyed the hummus, their signature gyro, both were freshly made, filling and enjoyable. Tried something new, the grilled eggplant with tomato, pesto & feta, it was really good. Nice to find decent vegetarian choices on a menu, definitely will try something new on next visit. But only 3 stars for service! Slow greets, slow to get our order in, & slow to serve it. Not sure the breakdown, but it was evident with other tables too. So again, go there for the food! But don't go if you're in a hurry.

The woman running this place is just the rudest person on the planet. Never again, Papa Zuzu's. Never again. The food is very good, but the service makes it absolutely insufferable.

I have been going to this restaurant for years and it is Consistently amazing! The Mediterranean place is great and very fresh! The chicken artichoke pizza is to die for! Service is friendly and Restaurant is inviting!

Two words: GYRO Pizza! Best pizza in town. It's unreal how much meat and feta cheese and mushrooms they pile on this delightful heavenly creation. Do yourself a favor and indulge in one. You won't regret the decision. The Taziki dipping sauce for the pizza is another perfect creation.

So, so, so good! If I could give higher than 5 stars I would... the food is fresh, authentic Greek. I've visited 4 or 5 times during my two week Charleston stay and hate to return home simply because my hometown has nowhere that begins to compare to Papa Zuzu's. I've ordered the Greek house salad which is filled with fresh tomatoes and cucumber. It's perfect. Also the gyro, which is enormous and big enough to take half home for lunch the next day. It's a great little hole in the wall restaurant with very sweet servers. Will definitely go back next time I'm in town.

I cannot explain to you how amazing of a restaurant Papa Zuzu's is! My friend and I took a spontaneous RT to Charleston and were lucky enough to find this place on Yelp. We ventured in on a Saturday evening and were immediately seated (bonus!). The inside is cute and quirky, but also has a great ambience for a dinner date or wine night with the girls. As for food.... Absolutely the FRESHEST food I've ever tasted from a restaraunt. They told us they get daily morning shipments of tomatoes. The hummus is to die for, you'll never get any better. It has officially ruined any other hummus I get from the grocery or other restaraunts. My friend orded a lamb gyro (the meat was so tender, it basically melted) and I ordered a Clayton's mess salad (which FYI, is HUGE. highly recommed the herb vin for dressing). If you love salads, you're going to love this place. The waitress we had (please forgive me I cannot remember her name) was the best ever. She allowed us to sample different wines before we picked our favorite, and didn't mind at all, giving us opinions on the way. We truly enjoyed chatting with her. To top off the amazing service and food, the chef even came out to chat with us for 5-10 minutes or so. She is such a sweet woman! We couldn't compliment her food more. We of course gave her hugs at the end of our meal. Please give this place a try! But be warned, you'll never find fresh mediterranean food any better!

Went here after a trip to the USS Yorktown. Our 10 and 6 year old claimed it the best cheese pizza ever. Gazpacho rocked. Gyro was super yummy and fresh. Highly recommend this place.

LOVED Papa Zuzu's. I can't wait to go back. Everything I ate was SO FRESH....the tomatoes were so RED...the best I have had in Charleston. Service was quick and friendly. I can't wait to go back :) My one complaint would be that my pita seemed a little stale, but that was totally trumped by my delicious gyro, the super fresh cucumber salad, and the tasty tzatziki!

    (5)
  • Blake F.

Grabbed the "not put together gyro plate." I've had that about 5 times now since I've started coming here for lunch. I've enjoyed this every single time. The tomato's are so juicy and plump. Delicious! The gyro meat has a very great flavor as well and the Tzatziki sauce has a nice refreshing taste. This also comes with a side of your choice. I always get the pasta salad which is also really very good. If I had any complaint, it would be that I think the prices are slightly a little high but I deal with it because it's a great place for some gyro's!

First time visit. I had heard the Gyro was good and so I had to try it. They serve it as a full size and a smaller portion. I ordered the full size and I felt like I was in an eating contest, and I like to eat big portions. Good tasting with great sauce that was well balanced. Awesome tomatoes here. I liked it a lot and may get the smaller version next time and/or try something new. Nice small restaurant you want to support as a local.

Better than the standard Greek place. Good portions and presentation. Gyro meat is from US Foods :( YUCK! Backlava from a bakery in Chicago. Really good and served with fresh fruit and honey. Such attention to detail but yet the gyro meat not house made.

Really great fresh food can come from a restaurant in a strip mall! Small space though so be prepared for a crowd...especially during lunch. The staff isn't over the top great, but they get the job done.

I have only been here one time but they have really good gyros. Very authentic gyros, really well made. We ordered an appetizer with pita bread, hummus, and babaganoush and they make it very mediterranean style. It was a little bit chunky instead of blended smooth and i loved it! So fresh and flavorful. The service was good but the place gets really busy so sometimes it takes a while to see the server again, but they are so nice and try to get to you as much as they can. I would recommend trying the gyros. They do a nice job!

  • Tiffany K.

I love that the food here is very fresh! I really wanted some fresh, minimally processed food and this restaurant provided that. I also love the casual, breezy atmosphere. It was kid-friendly for my preschooler and the big windows and open door let in lots of spring sunshine and fresh air, which was a nice perk! We got the Olives, Feta & Pita appetizer. It had huge slices of feta, tons of Calamata olives, olive oil and really fresh pita triangles. It tasted good but when the pitas were gone, the feta and olives didn't have a lot of appeal by themselves. T1 had the signature gyro and seemed to like it just fine. I got the grilled eggplant and I did not care for it at all. The thick slices of eggplant topped with thick slices of grilled tomato created a very mushy entree. Even with the pesto it was quite bland and watery. It was an experiment for me, so perhaps those who already love eggplant would like the dish. I substituted a garden salad for the Caesar salad and it came with big chunks of fresh vegetables which was my favorite part of the meal. T3 had the kids cheese pizza and he did not care for it at all because it was too spicy. I didn't think it was all that spicy, even for kids. It was on a real thin crust (probably a pita?) which made it difficult to hold and was way too big (and expensive!) for a kids meal. I would have been much happier with it if it had been half the size and half the price. It could easily feed 2 or 3 children. I really want to like this restaurant! They do a great job providing lots of fresh options, but it is also quite pricey!! I will probably try them again and get something completely different for myself and my son.

I have had Gyro's in many states, NC, NY, IL, and OR. This place is small and quaint and their Gyro's kick butt. I would probably say one of the best Gyro's I have ever had. I have had a Large Gyro with pasta salad on two occasions 2.5 months apart. The consistency in delivering an awesome Gyro is spot on. Very delicious and filling. The only constructive criticism I could offer is more Tzatziki sauce, a bit more tomatoes, and more onion. With that said though, the meat is piled on and delicious and probably why they use less tomato and onion. Either way, it does need more Tzatziki sauce and I ordered extra Tzatziki on both occasions. Don't let it stop you from trying probably one of the best Gyro's.

Yum - my Dad and I split a Gyro and the artichoke and chicken pizza. We had take-out since there was a sleeping baby in the car. I liked that the gyro had fresh greens on it. The cucumber salad was also tasty. Pita was nice and doughy (not flatbread). I will definitely go back.

I love PaPa ZuZu's! I've been going here since they first opened on King Street a while back. Now their only location is Coleman Blvd, but this is the best place for them. Its a fantastic lunch option. Best Gyro in town for sure. Amazing Greek Salad. My all time favorite though is the Mediterranean Plate and add either chicken or gyro to it. The Med Plate is easily two meals. When I was in college, I would get a Med Plate for lunch, eat half and have the rest for dinner. Their Hummus, Baba, Titzkiki, Olives, Feta, Olive Oil are all top notch. This place is great!

I come here often and have yet to have a bad meal. On my most recent visit I tried the ZuZu Gyro pizza and it was amazing. Large in size, loaded with toppings and so good. The Big Beef Pita, the Stuffed Portobello and the Eggplant dish (under the vegetarian section) are also favorites. The staff is friendly, and the food is fresh and full of flavor. In short, it's never a bad idea to enjoy a meal at Papa Zuzu's.

We are big time fans of this great restaurant, but the past few visits have been painfully slow service. I think the to go orders are overwhelming them. They need to look at how they are managing this; the physical customers are waiting way too long for service.

Always delicious. Always fresh. Absolutely fantastic! So many delicious options on the menu that it makes it hard to choose what to eat! Always stellar! So thankful Papa ZuZu's is in Mt. P!

Came here for lunch on a rainy Friday and had great Greek specialties We ordered a pizza and a couple of salads all of which were delicious and reasonably priced. The star of the meal was the gazpacho - just spicy enough with an amazing color from the freshest tomatoes. The service was just ok. I think next time I will try the gyro, something I avoid most of the time because it can be too greasy - theirs looked great coming out of the kitchen

quirky, independent pizza place. ended up here after a yelp search. Food was great, but this is not for your picky child. You want a plain pepperoni or cheese pizza, then move on one block to Andolini's.

Papa Zuzu's is a restaurant I always forget about, but really enjoy when I go! The portobello gyro with lettuce, tomato, onion (love that they're served grilled!), and taziki is my go-to order but they have lots of other vegetarian options too. I ordered the small and it was perfect - don't think I'd be able to finish a full gyro. Perhaps even better than the gyro was the side pasta salad with veggies and feta. Oh my gosh, so good! My friend had a small portobello gyro but ordered cucumber salad and really liked her meal as well. It was pretty empty on a Friday night at 7, but the food and service were great! Will definitely continue to come back. :)

I ate here last night based on the high ratings on yelp. The reviews saying the food is very fresh are spot-on! My daughter and I had the chicken salad and a gyro pizza. Delicious! The owner and staff were very friendly. Definitely will eat here again soon. Obviously the person that gave a low rating is ticked off about something, because the review is grossly inaccurate in my opinion. Sounds suspiciously like a disgruntled employee to me. I'm sure the owners are glad to be rid of them if that's the case!

The gyros were awesome, the lamb was really juicy not dried out. The cucumber salad was really good.

Still the best Greek salad and gyros. Parents tried the chicken gyro pizza and was extremely pleased. Coffee was good on a colder day, really strong but no half and half , just milk. Overall - super fresh and tasty Greek food.

Why this place has not been shut down by DEHEC is a big mystery, it is really not clean. One has to go near the kitchen to use the restroom and boy is that eye opening. Gross. The floors in the restaurant need to be steam cleaned and the tables need some bleach. And the bathroom is pretty bad as well. The food is really good and very good value. Make sure you eat during the day, the service is much better and much friendlier. Apparently the girl with the tattoos and huge plate in her ear is in charge in the evening, and let me tell you, she is one rude and sullen young woman. The service is quite spotty at that time of day. I have eaten here many many times and I will not go back. The owner is awful to the young people who work at Papa Zuzu's. I can't believe he has any staff at all. Screams, yells and is constantly demeaning them. It is really bad. I sat at the bar one day and got a huge foul and obscene earful of him in the kitchen. I am sure he had no idea he was being overheard, the things he had to say about his employees and customers was unbelievable. They are never getting anymore of my money.

We think this is the best place for gyros in the lowcountry. I get the regular and my wife orders the half. They are just the right size and taste great. The ingredients always taste fresh and the service is pretty good. If you get the make your own gyro to-go, you could probably share it. It is a good sized portion. The outside seating is only OK and we take it anyway.

Excellent gyros- they're huge. Everything tastes extremely fresh and the people working there are very nice. Nice ripe tomatoes, spinach, cucumbers and onions are on top of the delicious gyro meat. Their homemade taziki is amazing too. Highly recommended!

After my second visit and having tried their signature Gyro I can easily say that this is the best Greek/Mediterranean restaurant that I have tried in Charleston. The Gyro was fantastic and the pasta salad was creamy and delicious. I will definitely be coming back for more any time I am on this side of town.

Papa Zuzu's has amazing Greek food. Probably some of the best I've ever had. Unfortunately, there service is not so great. I called for take-out at 12:10 and was told it would be ready in 30 minutes. I arrived just after 12:40 to pick up my food, along with four other people. We were all told it would be out in a minute.... 25 minutes later 3 of us were still standing there. As I stood there waiting for my salad, I watched the guy making salads talking on his cell phone!!! The worst part for me is I miss my entire lunch break and wasn't even able to eat the food that I spent my money on... This place is in need of some serious organization and customer service!

Check out Papa Zuzu's if you like noticeably fresh and simple food. Hands down the best Greek joint in the city. Come to think of it, it's better than all the places from my hometown too. The food has not failed me since finding this little gem two months ago. I've been there about 10 times already.

During a recent holiday get together one of the revelers mentioned that Papa Zuzu's was a great place to get sandwiches or salads and that their food was, "incredibly fresh". It peaked our interest, so we decided to give it a try. Papa Zuzu's is located in a small strip center on Coleman Boulevard. If you blink you would just about miss it. Judging by the lunch crowd this place is on many a person's favorites list. I was surprised to see that the restaurant has been recognized by the Travel Channel as one of the "Top 5 Good Eats in Charleston". Who knew? Seating (indoor and outside), will accommodate about 50 people. I would recommend getting there early however, when we arrived the place was packed. Papa Zuzu's defines a "mom and pop" restaurant. "Pop" toiled away in the kitchen as a one-man band making all of the menu items to order. "Mom" works the evening shifts. Since the only seats left when we arrived were at their small bar area I was able to observe the kitchen with a bird's eye view. I was stunned to see that EVERY single order was prepared fresh. Nothing was prepped ahead of time. Tomatoes, Feta cheese, cucumbers, chicken, you name it, was all cut to order. I can't see how this helps the efficiency of the lunch flow or costs for that matter, but you can't argue with freshness. The menu is quite large and predominately Greek. A small twist is their grilled pizzas, but they too have a Greek slant. Not being a huge fan of Greek food I stuck to a chicken, fruit and walnut salad and my husband chose Zuzu's Signature beef and lamb Gyro. Be prepared to wait a bit for your lunch since it is prepared to order, ours took close to 20 minutes, but it was without a question, worth the wait. When our lunch arrived, my salad ($9.95) was huge! It was so big that 1/2 of it became dinner that night. Large slices of fresh Feta, sundried grape tomatoes, chicken, and mandarin oranges filled the plate. The nice thing about the salad was it was also very lightly dressed with a raspberry vinaigrette dressing. It was fresh and fabulous. The Gyro was a big win as well. Served with fresh lettuce, chopped vine ripe tomatoes and grilled onions it was topped with house-made Tzatziki sauce (dill, garlic, lemon juice and yogurt made by a Greek goat farmer that they use), and it was served with a fresh cucumber salad. The beef/lamb combo was tender and very tasty. Speaking of tomatoes, one of the restaurant's signature items are the tomatoes that are stored on shelves in the front window. It's the restaurant's way of insuring that tomatoes are used when they are perfectly ripe. The owner rotates them to ensure that they all are getting just the right amount of sunlight. Roll all of these ingredients together, blend them with the freshness and you've got a great lunch. We'll no doubt be back soon.

I visited this place for two reasons: the reviews on here, and my love of Greek food! This place was pretty easy to find, but if one were just driving around it can be easily missed. After arriving I could either set outside or inside, which seemed a nice touch. The booths were very comfortable; I could sleep on them most likely. I ordered the Zuzu signature gyro with tabouli, and it was awesome! The tabouli was some of the best around. The tatziki was very light. For some reason a lot of places like to make it thick, extra fattening, and horrible. The meal was ten bucks and the gyro was almost as long as my forearm. Great place! I will be back soon to try the rest of the menu!

I think gyros can be very heavy sometimes but not here! It was the lightest freshest gyro I ever had, my mouth is still watering right now! I also had the cucumber salad and again it was a refreshing meal after the beach!

It's rare to find a place in the south that has Vernor's, so I knew right away I would like this place. It's a basic Greek menu, but everything is super fresh, well prepared and priced right. The pizza is super thin and yummy. Gyros are just right. Baba ganoush (sp?) was the best I've ever had. Can't wait to go back.

I love Greek food, so I wasn't about to turn away a well-rated Greek place on our weekend excursion to Charleston. It definitely did not disappoint. Fully packed even a couple hours after the lunch rush and on a rainy Saturday, Mark and I had to take a seat at the bar. I ordered a sweet tea (should have gone with half sweet and half unsweet; it nearly gave me diabetes--welcome to the south, y'all) and a classic gyro, with the hummus to split. The gyro meat (the traditional lamb + beef) was among the best I've ever had. Well seasoned and not piecey. Pita bread was delicious, tzatziki was great, and everything tasted fresh and delicious. I can't give it five stars simply because I wasn't blown away by the seating arrangements/decor, but if I lived in the area, I would definitely be picking up an order of delicious Greek food from Papa Zuzu's every so often.

Fresh, flavorful gyros - ordered as takeout so can't comment on in-store service - next time will try pasta salad, cucumber salad wasn't anything exciting and the chunks of cucumbers were huge. Look forward to returning and trying more things on the menu!

My wife and I went here for dinner. We got the Zuzu's "table" Platter as an app. The Tzatziki and Hummus were both super garlicy, which we loved. Tzatziki is usually an unremarkable dip, but it was amazing here. The feta, olives and even the olive oil were tasty (we even took some olive oil home.) For entrees I got the Gyro Pizza which very good. The mushrooms and grilled onions were a nice touch. My wife got the Clayton's Mess Salad. Again everything was delicious. You'll notice tomatoes on shelves around the place. Talking to the owner she said the buy them unripened and let them ripen inside. The tomatoes were amazing and we ended up purchasing a couple to take home with us. I would definitely recommend Papa Zuzu's if you're looking for good Mediterranean fare and/or something on the light side.

Lived in Charleston for 12 years and this is hands down my favorite spot for lunch! Freshest veggies of anywhere in town as is evidenced by the wall of beautiful tomatoes ripening in the window. Best Greek salads and gyros of anywhere I've ever been. Service is always spot on even when they get slammed for lunch, which does happen! Owner is always in the kitchen making sure the final product you receive is on point. Your body will actually feel better after you leave from getting so many fresh veggies in it! Definitely recommend it for a lunch spot if you've never been!

Very good! The food is high quality and prepared with care. Outdoors in good weather is a buzz with lively Coleman Blvd. Inside is wonderful aroma. This proves that you can have a great dining experience without spending a lot of money. Casual dining at its best. Artichoke/chicken pizza was superb, the gyro crust was excellent, the basic, but perfect, Greek salad is an indicator of a quality operation. Last but certainly not least the baklava put me over the top for FIVE STARS. These guys deserve your business, check it out!

The Gyro Pizza - our new love! During our last visit we decided to try something a bit different, the Gyro Pizza. What an amazing dish. A lovely thin crust with feta, mozerella and gyro meat, served with tzaziki. I wanted to start with a cup of gazpacheo, but it's a quick seller and we went fairly late in the evening. We opted to start instead with their hummus and pita. So tasty! There are so many great restaurants in the Charleston/Mt Pleasant area, but Papa Zuzu's is our go to choice!

Gyros were delicious, yummy Greek Salad and the Portobello Vegetarian dish was incredible! We had the baklava for dessert and it was yummy, as well. Can't wait to try the Greek Pizzas on our next visit.

Despite the smallish seating area, the food that comes from the kitchen will pleasantly surprise you. I was amused by their use of tomatoes as a decorating tool. Very unique! We all ordered different things and I tried my sisters gyro pizza. Sounded weird, but was yummmmmy. I would definitely return.

Papa Zuzu's has been on my list for a couple months to try but we had been burned so many times by Greek food in Charleston that we were hesitant. Oh but Papa Zuzu's knocked it out of the park! I had a fantastic chicken and spinach pita. Big and full of fresh ingredients with just the right amount of feta cheese. My dining partner had the Greek salad with gyro meat on the side. It was a thing of beauty. She kept saying she was taking half home but she ended up hoovering the whole thing down. She said the gyro meat was perfect and tender. The waitstaff was courteous and efficient. Restaurant was charming and clean. I noticed that after 4 they serve a nice selection of beers. Go...you will not be disappointed!

This place is great... Excellent Gyro (any way you order it) and the Greek salad in awesome. Had the Gyro pizza, also out of this world - lots of meat, fresh veggies and some of the best tzatziki sauce I have ever had. Don't get thrown off by the strip mall or interior of this restaurant, the food definitely makes up for that. Service could always be a little more attentive but, again, food makes it.

  • Bill M.

Excellent. The gyro meat is tender, lightly spiced and completely free of that pesky gristle that can be found many times. The tabouli was amazing and very different. It is mostly bulgar. I'm used to the version that relies mostly on parsley and mint. The taste was spicy and fresh. I had a great Greek beer, the wife had a decent Lebanese beer and we took home a small piece of Baklava. It was very good too, not too sweet. The menu is varied, so I plan to return to try more of the Mediterranean options. The service was the best I've received in MtP or this area, or maybe ever. The whole staff put off this positive vibe. Smiles were everywhere, amidst the efficient processing of seating, ordering, delivery, monitoring and checkout. The place made me feel good. It's small, and it got busy on the Friday that we were there. You might have to wait, but it's worth it.

Delicious food here. I ordered the appetizer platter. The portion was very generous and all the different elements were delicious in and of themselves even down to the soft and warm pita bread. Very nice combination of dishes in this platter.

Great Mediteranean food in Mount Pleasant. I ordered the Baba Ghanoush, Gyro platter and baklava for dessert. Nice larger portion on the platter. Great taste, and the tzatziki sauce was fresh and had just the right amount of garlic. The Baba Ghanoush was strange. I've had a lot of Baba Ghanoush and it has always been pureed to the point you can't identify the eggplant. This was quite chunky. The taste was good, but I didn't care for the chunks. Baklava was very good.

Came to Zuzu's on a Monday night. Service was adequate, food was a disappointment considering the high rating this place has. Sorry to say that Pita Pit on King Street would have been the better option.

Love it. I just try not to look around and see how dirty it is. I'm MAJORLY into cleanliness, in my own business as well as businesses I frequent. The furniture is shabby, the floor is in disrepair and everything just looks dirty. There was a roof leak the last two times we went (right above our table...) But, if I position myself facing the door I can live in ignorance for the hour I'm there. The food is fresh. Service isn't friendly but is typically efficient. Good flavors and cheap prices. We eat here maybe twice a month and get the same thing every time. I just wish they would step up the atmosphere.

LOVE Papa Zuzu's. When you crave a huge fresh crunchy well made greek salad with big beautiful tomatoes, cucs and feta, this is the place to go. Their pizzas are delicious, extra thin crust and delicious toppings. They have additional dishes like grilled portabellos with toppings that are great as well. Very casual, friendly and tables outside.

Had to check this joint out and see if it lived up to the hype. Papa ZuZu meet Dr Big Daddy. Decided to go simple, although they do have a vast Mediteranean menu, as I love a traditional Greek Gyro. And this was one bad ass Gyro! The meat was seasoned perfectly, tender, and not over cooked. I had to have Zuzu bring Big another because just one wasn't enough to quench my thirst for gyro heaven. Also tried the baklava before I bolted-damn it was good. Zuzu, your nemesis will be back...

Outdoor seating available - not much of a view, but a nice option on the right day. It's a cute little place to grab some great Greek food. I can only comment on what we ate and all three dishes were very good to awesome. Greek salad - yum. Chopped veggies, nice Feta and dressing - very refreshing. The gyro - awesome, and I'm a gyro fiend. The sauce is the best I've had in a long time. Would we go back for a quick lunch or lite dinner? You bet.

Assuming Papa ZuZu's in Mt. P has the same food as they did when they were located on King St., I am a HUGE fan. The artichoke/pesto/chicken pizza is unlike anything I've ever had. The amazing thin crust, great pesto, lots of artichokes and soft cheese once made order one to-go immediately after I finished one in the store. I can't wait to visit next time I'm in town! [I used to live in Mt. P]

Not worth the money... I ordered a chicken gyro for a lunch pick up & for $11. SO not worth it. Eat-a-pita or pita pit has this place BEAT, for much less money. Skip it.
